I can hardly believe my littlest miracle is already THREE, but alas, it appears to be true. This year we took our inspiration from his current favorite book, Where the Wild Things Are, which he affectionately refers to as his “Wild Rumpus Book.” And a Wild Rumpus certainly seemed appropriate for our little monster. We opted for a Saturday morning brunch, complete with pancakes, bacon, a yogurt bar, and plenty of donuts. There was even a mimosa bar for the grownups to enjoy. We chose to have an “open house” get together, rather than a traditional birthday party, so that we could enjoy the time with our guests and just let the kids be kids. Overall we had a grand time and I would call the rumpus a big success.
Here’s a gallery of some very quick photos I snapped before the days festivities got underway (and before we added all 5 lbs of bacon to the table! YUM!) Much of the party was DIYed by yours truly, but I will include links on the bottom in case you see something you want to snag. (I tried to include a link to a similar item whenever I could.)
- Let the Wild Rumpus Start
- Front Porch Decorations
- Front Porch Decorations
- I used a bag of craft moss and these cardboard craft letters to create Jack’s moss name
- When you first entered the door, you were greeted with a room in mid-transformation into a forrest – just like Max’s
- Entryway
- Each favor bag was handpainted with a wild things crown, and included a twig pencil, a fruit leather, and a gluten free organic oatmeal raisin bar made by Annie’s
- The pages that inspired the entryway transformation were on display on the wall
- Heading into the Main Party Room
- Drink Station & Mimosa Bar
- Buffet Table and Banner – I spray painted plain chipboard letters with gold glitter paint and attached them to bakers twine to create the custom banner
- Buffet Table
- Donut Tower – i used three bark rounds, with birch log pieces in between, on top of my existing wooden cake stand. I didnt use any adhesive, so this actually can be taken apart and used however I need next time. The 3 was a cardboard craft number I spraypainted with gold glitter spraypaint.
- Mini Pankcakes with faux forrest mushrooms from the craft store
- Cheese Board, Crackers, Dips, & Spreads
- Fruit, Yogurt Toppings, and Veggies
- Wooden Disposable SIlverware really added a neat touch. They got lots of comments from partygoers, and the hippy in me was thrilled they werent plastic.
- Coffee Bar and a book displaying Max becoming King of the Wild Things and famously declaring “Let the Wild Rumpus Start”
- Candy Rocks To Gnash Their Terrible Teeth
- Our Goodbye to Partygoers
